How is a Credit Score Calculated?

Over the years in my blog and in videos I’ve talked a lot about two topics. First, that credit repair, although it’s a great service only accounts for 35% of a credit score. We do a great job with credit repair but we also provide our clients with other services. These other services help a client with 100% of their credit score. The second topic is that we educate our clients on credit and how to have a great credit score. That way they can maintain that score on their own for the rest of their life. So, let’s get into discussing how is a credit score calculated.

Your credit score is the most important part of your financial life. In this economic climate your credit rating matters more than ever. Lenders look at it when you apply for a loan, credit card, mortgage or other type of credit. What they are doing is looking at how credit worthy you are.

How Is a Credit Score Calculated?

Payment History (35%) – The biggest factor in your credit score is your payment history. It composes 35% of your total score. The payment history factor is looking to see if you have paid your bills on time in the past. And, it indicates whether you are currently behind in any of your bills or not. Some late payments, such as mortgage lates, have more of an impact on your credit score. Your mortgage is a major rpriority to keep current. Payment history is the biggest factor for how a credit score is calculated. Therefore, it should be the biggest priority to not have late payments or past due accounts.

Outstanding Debt (30%) – Outstanding debt is what you still owe on accounts. It makes up 30% of your overall credit score. This is based on the amount of available credit you have versus how much you are using.

There are revolving credit accounts and installment and mortgage accounts. Installment and mortgage accounts are based on the original loan amount versus the amount still owed. Auto loans also fit into this category. These type loans have a set monthly payment over a specific period of time. Revolving credit is generally credit cards. This is looked at with regard to the credit limit versus the amount owed. The best practice is to keep the balance below 30% of the limit on the account. This will make the biggest positive impact on your credit score.

Length of Credit History (15%) – This category reflects how long your accounts have been open. Also it looks at the length of time since the last activity on the account. The longer an account is open and current the better impact to your credit score.

Type of Credit (10%) – It’s beneficial to have a mix of different types of accounts. For example, a mortgage, an auto loan, 2 major credit cards, and 2 store or gas cards. The caution here is not to take on more debt for the sake of your credit score.

Inquiries (10%) – There are two types of inquiries that appear on your credit report. Inquiries that you authorize to obtain credit, or hard inquiries. And, promotional, or soft inquiries. Too many hard inquiries in a short time can negatively impact your credit profile. However, inquiries that occur for mortgage and auto loans prior to 30 days from scoring do not affect your score. Also, if multiple auto loan inquiries occur within a 14 day period as treated as a single inquiry. Promotional inquires do not affect your credit score.

Financial Education Services or FES, is a well established company in the financial services arena. Its core product is the Protection Plan. The Protection Plan is a set of credit centric services revolving around credit restoration or what the public calls credit repair.

About Financial Education Services

Financial Education Services (FES) has a unique direct sales business model where individuals become independent Agents and sell the FES services. FES Agents also have the opportunity to build a team of Agents. This gives them the ability to do far more sales and earn far more income than they could on their own.

The advantages of FES over starting your own credit repair business are many and are addressed in another blog post. In this post I want to discuss the best way to learn this business if you want to get started as an Agent with FES.

Learn the FES Business from a Top Producer

The best way to learn this business at a high level is to learn it from someone that has reached a high level. Often people take advice and try to learn from people that haven’t achieved what they are trying to achieve. That makes no sense. So, this logic holds true for learning the Financial Education Services business.

Who is Dale Guiducci in FES?

In order to establish my credibility with you, even though it’s not typically the way I like to operate, please allow me to share some of the accomplishments I’ve had with FES.

I have been in the top 5 in sales 5 years in a row. One year being #1. I have been in the top 5 in building my team of Agents 5 years in a row. The Most Valuable Agent award was presented to me in 2017. I have also received the Outstanding Achievement and Leadership Awards. And I have either been in the top 5 or won every company sponsored contest 5 years in a row. In addition, I was named a trainer for the company and spent nearly 3 years traveling the country training thousands of FES Agents. And, I am a Vice President and member of the prestigious R&R Club. OK enough of that.

ERA Credit Services

Before I get into sharing our training program (personal and FES training) let me talk about the name of my independent agency with Financial Education Services. When most people become Agents they simply use their own name. I decided to brand a company name for my agency, ERA Credit Services. So, if you were to go to YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn or even my website you would see the name of ERA Credit Services. FES or Financial Education services, is not mentioned often and is not mentioned on our website at all. There is a strategic reason behind it that I can explain more in detail if we ever get the chance to discuss this business.

Building the Financial Education Services Business

In general, you can build an FES business 2 ways. And, you can combine, as I have, both of these ways. You can build it organically, meaning without paid advertising. And you can build it through paid advertising. I have done and continue to do both. Therefore I can teach you how to do both but with a disclaimer.

If you have an advertising budget and are familiar with online tools such as sales funnels, social media and Google Ads this is a great way to go. However, your budget and your knowledge have to be extensive. I cannot, nor can anyone else that’s busy running their own business, teach you Facebook, Instagram, Google Ads and sales funnels from scratch. Again, you have to bring a certain level of experience in these areas to the table.

Anyone Can Learn the FES Business

However, you do not need to have any level of significant experience to learn this business and build it organically (without paid advertising). This is an area that I have flourished in and so has my team. There are very specific methods of procuring customers and agents that I can teach you. There is a system with tools that I have developed for my team that I also teach and that each agent on my team has access to.

The FES Success System of Training

FES has developed a top notch online training program. It will teach you the basics from getting your website and services set up to using their mini sales funnel called FES Connect. A huge benefit to this online training program is that it’s flexible for our agents. They can access the training anytime of the day or night so it really helps those agents that have a full time job and a family.

 Coaching Calls

I take a personal interest in the success of each agent on my team. Immediately after an agent joins FES we set up our 1st coaching call. From there my FES agents have a link they can use to schedule coaching calls very week if they like. They also have my cell phone and know that I respond to calls and texts very quickly.

Weekly Live Training

In addition, I conduct live training sessions every week through Facebook Live and our private team Facebook page. I cover different topics each week about sales, recruiting, credit repair, customer service and more. Facebook is a great platform for this as any previous Facebook Live can be viewed by new and veteran agents on their schedule.

What Else Do You Need to Be Successful With FES?

Financial Education Services and I will provide you with everything you need. However, each new FES Agent has to bring with them a sincere desire to succeed and a willingness to get outside their comfort zone. They also have to be coachable and okay with learning new business strategies and letting some old philosophies go. And finally, they have to have a strong work ethic that is commensurate with the kind of success they want to achieve.

Part Time and Full Time Agents

What I love about the FES business is that people can earn a steady part time income of between $500 and $1,000 a month or they can earn a significant 6 figure income. They only difference is the time and effort that they put in.

You may want to start credit repair but you don’t have the money in your budget. Isn’t that the same reason perhaps that you need credit repair? If you already know people in real estate or mortgage you could get your 5 customers very fast. Real estate and mortgage agents turn people away everyday because of a low credit score. Just have a conversation with them and let them know what you do.
