10+ years ago my wife Shirley, and I began a journey together and launched a new business. We did so out of necessity as we had both been laid off from our jobs in the previous recession. Shirley had previously started an accounting business, but it wasn’t producing the income and time freedom that we desired. We needed a different business model that produced residual income and was scalable. Owning an independent credit repair agency could produce both. We knew that some couples found it difficult to work together but we were confident that we could make it work. Years later we have become one of the successful couples in the credit repair business.

What Does it Take to Work Together? The Keys to Working Together as a Couple

If you indeed enjoy spending time with each other then working together can be fun, rewarding, and powerful. Couples in business must have good communication and respect for the other person's talents and skills. You need to be able to recognize the other person's strengths, weaknesses, likes, and dislikes. And recognize your own. Then have the lack of need for control to be able to give up what you aren’t good at or don’t like to do to the other. As well be willing to take over a task that your partner doesn’t enjoy doing. It’s ‘give and take’ while keeping 2 ultimate goals in mind. The happiness of your partner, and the success of your business.

By assessing the strengths and weaknesses of each other and giving up control you can build a powerful team that can accomplish so much more than any individual could. One other point is that by working in a business together, we appreciate and understand each other’s frustrations, disappointments, struggles as well as successes that we experience. We are each other’s cheerleaders, coaches, teammates, and biggest fans. This has added a great deal to our marriage. Personally, I not only appreciate Shirley for the work that she does, but I honor her talents and abilities because I know what it takes to do this well.

Why the Credit Repair is a Good Business

The credit repair business is a good business in good economic times but perhaps is even a better business when the economy is not doing well. It can be described as ‘recession-proof’. Or, as Shirley put it in the video below, ‘situation proof’. As an example, in 2020 while the pandemic raged, we had a record-breaking year.

What Being in Business Together Has Done for Us

Over the last 11-plus years, we have developed a phenomenal lifestyle for ourselves. Phenomenal is a relative term for what we want out of life. Which is to spend time together, first of all. Also to have the freedom and flexibility to work as hard as we want but also take time off and enjoy the things we like to do together. It’s about spending quality time together which has added greatly to our relationship. We’ve grown together in business but also as a couple.

Being one of the successful couples in the credit repair business has also provided the financial rewards that allow us to do the things that we enjoy. We love the outdoors which is a big reason that we moved to Florida 6 years ago. By the way, you can take the credit repair business with you if you choose to move. And, you can take it with you if you want to travel for short or even longer stints.

You can live and work anywhere in the U.S. that has cell service and internet. We frequently take 3 or 4-day trips. Usually once a month or more. In 2019 we rented a house in North Carolina for 5 weeks to see another part of the country. We worked while we were there but had the ability to take time off to enjoy hiking, biking, the mountains, and more.
